A Global Index of Trade Misreporting
The global index of trade misreporting is an index quantifying a country's degree of trade misreporting using a novel methodology to measure misreported trade in a consistent way across countries and over time. Specifically, the methodology does not require any assumptions about which countries may be more or less likely to misreport – rather, all indices are derived endogenously with available trade data. It contains seven specific indices related to overall misreporting, as well as over- and under-reporting of exports and imports.
The indices are available for 160 WTO Member countries for the time period of 1996-2015. The dataset is available here in the STATA or Excel format.
More information on how the indices are constructed can be found in:
Farhad, M., Jetter, M., Siddique, A., Williams, A., 2019. "Misreported Trade," Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence (ESCoE) Discussion Papers ESCoE DP-2019-13.

Although the indices are estimated based on trade data retrieved from the World Trade Solution database (WITS), which is derived from the United Nations International Trade Statistics Database (UN Comtrade), the indices are not associated with those organisations.
